CHAT HELP

What is Towerchat all about?
We offer a unique graphical chat environment where you can create your own image (cyber person if you will) and have your own flat and meet up with your friends in Cyberspace. It is like going out without the hassle! In computer terminology we refer to your cyber person as an "Avatar". The word "Avatar" comes from Hinduism, the manifestation of a God in human or superhuman form - somehow the term has now crept into computer speak!

I am a new visitor, can I test-drive your chat as a Guest? Where can I enter?
Yes, you can. Just click on "Chat as Male" or "Chat as female".

Should I give someone my personal information. E.g my address, telephone number, mobile number or email?
The answer to this is NO - in no circumstances should you give your details to someone you don't know! The problem is that on the Internet and in Towerchat people can pretend to be someone they are not and this can in certain cases be very very dangerous. So do not give your details to anybody unless your are absolutely certain that they are who they say they are. If you eventually do give someone your details, make sure you let other people know what you have done and to whom you have given your details. If you have agreed to meet up with someone in the real world outside cyber space, make sure that you never go alone and that you meet in a public place. Please read more about chat safety on www.chatdanger.com and www.thinkuknow.com.

I am a registered user, where can I enter the chat?
Just enter your username and your password to the right on the opening page and hit "sign in".

The chat window has opened what now?
Now you are on one of the floors in our Tower. You should see at least one avatar -Your own!

There are so many people, where am I ?
Each avatar has a name written under it (unless you disabled this option). If you entered the chat as a guest you will see the word "Guest" under one of the avatars. The easiest way to determine where your avatar is, is to "say" (type) something. Just start typing on your keyboard and what you type will come up as a speech bubble.

How can I "say" something?
Just start typing and you will see a speech bubble growing near your avatar as you type.
Note: no one else will see what you are saying until you hit "Enter".

I have started typing but nothing appeared on the screen?
Click anywhere in the chat room and try again.

How do I move around the room?
Click on the space free of avatars and pieces of furniture and you will 'jump' there.

I don't want just to "say" things, I want to "scream" or to "think out loud" something.
The default option is normal talk "say". To "scream" or to "think" something, click on your own avatar, select Speech and then the desired option. Now try typing something, and you will see that the form of the bubble has changed.

I have already typed a phrase, but I've changed my mind about sending it. Can I cancel the message?
Yes, until you hit "Enter", you can cancel your message. Just press the "Esc" key on your keyboard or use the backspace button.

Can my avatar reflect my mood?
Oh, yes it can! Click on your avatar and select "Emotions". You will see five different emotions to choose from. Choose one of them and you will see the corresponding changes in the facial expression of your avatar.

What are the private rooms?
All Towerchat Members have their own penthouse flat at the top of the Tower. What's more, those rooms can be decorated and designed the way you want it by using our design templates.

Can I enter my private room or flat?
Yes, click on your avatar and choose "Go to my" from the menu. You will see a list of your own rooms. Select one of them to enter there.

Can I send a private message to one of the other avatars?
Yes, click on the avatar you want to send a message to. Select the "Whisper" option. Try typing something; your bubble should be red which indicates that you are composing a private message. If you want to talk at length to someone in confidence then we suggest you use your room or flat by inviting the other avartar inside your own room.

This guy/gal is annoying. I don't want to see what's he/she saying.
Click on the offending avatar and select Status and "Snubbed" You won't see any text from this avatar until you uncheck "Snubbed" in the menu. The offending avatar will get a message on the screen informing them that it has been "Snubbed".

How would I know who is this or that avatar?
Click on the avatar in question and select "Bio". The information about this avatar will appear in a small window.

Can I invite somebody to my private room or flat?
Yes, you can. Click on the avatar you want to invite and select "Invite to my". You will see a list of your own rooms. Click on one of them to invite the selected person there. The invitee can either accept or decline your invitation. You will be notified about the invitee's decision by a message. To meet your guests click on your own avatar and select "Go to my" from the menu; then select the room where you have invited your guests to meet up with you.

I found a person I really like. Is there any way to easily find him/her when I return to TowerChat tomorrow?
Yes, you can add this person to your buddy list. Click on the avatar you want to add and select "Add to Buddies". Now you can see this person in your Buddy List on your TowerChat homepage.

What is that scrolling line above the room picture?
This is our News Ticker or Public Address System (Tannoy) There you will find the latest site news and messages from our users.

What is the "Log File" button underneath the room picture?
Sometimes when a lot of people chat in the same room it can be difficult to follow the conversation - in such case you can click on "log file" to go back and see the part of the conversation you missed.

I wanted to send a private message, but I've changed my mind. How can I make that red thing go away?
Click anywhere in the room outside text fields and your private message will be cancelled.

I want to talk only to this certain person. Sending private messages all the time is too tiring. Is there any other way to do it?
Yes there is. You can invite one or more avatars into your private room or flat and nobody will bother you there.

What does the "Options" button underneath the room mean?
After clicking on it you will see another menu where you will be able to choose whether you want the names of the avatars to be displayed in the Chat.

What is the "Lift" button underneath the room?
As in any other building, we in TowerChat use a lift to move up and down the floors. We encourage you to explore all the rooms in TowerChat, so don't hesitate to use it.

I am in the lift, what should I do?
Our lift is used like any other lift. As you can see, there are ten buttons, which represent the floors of our Tower (Bar, Rave Dance, Casino, et al.). You can visit any of the floors by clicking on the corresponding button.

What are the numbers next to each room/floor?
Those numbers show how many users there are in the room. When you click on any room button, you will see the names of the visitors in this room.

What if I click the "Stop" button while the lift is "moving"?
Try it! - the lift will just stop and you will be able to choose between the floors again.

Why can't I go to the floor I want?
This usually happens if the maximum number of visitors in this room is reached. If this is the case, you won't see the number of visitors next to the room title, instead you will see the word "Full". Don't worry, you can always go to our Pub's, since they do not have any restrictions on the number of visitors.
